The Sneaker Pimp. From the homepage of University of Waikata (NZ) prof Gareth Schott, who specializes in new media and role playing. Specifically:
as a psychologist he is principally interested in the ways new media technologies mediate human behavior and personal and social development. Over the past four years his research, publications and conference papers have focused on 'players' of digital games.
I've only just begun to explore all this -- figured I'd post what I had and come back with more, if there is any.
Sorry, try again:

What did it say before "Not that Sneaker Pimp" ?
Posted by: Simon Moon | 01 February 2005 at 03:31 AM
And now it's red and blank.
Posted by: Simon Moon | 01 February 2005 at 07:16 AM
No, I think that is orange not red. The same orange as the Neurocam billboards in Australia as a matter of fact!
Posted by: observer | 01 February 2005 at 07:23 AM
It is the same color as can be found on Neurocam. FF3300
Posted by: Simon Moon | 01 February 2005 at 07:33 AM
Or maybe not? NC seems to be FF4a00 ??
Posted by: Simon Moon | 01 February 2005 at 07:34 AM
First it said "The Sneaker Pimp."
Then it apparently said "Not that Sneaker Pimp" -- I missed that one.
And now we got nuthin.
Hmpf.

Damn they're changing it too fast. I missed "not that sneaker pimp". Oh well, hopefully something stranger will appear tomorrow.

Well.
This is mildly interesting.
On neurocam.com the background colour is indeed #FF4a00.
On robinhely.com the background colour is indeed #FF3300.
Close, yes. But there's something closer.
On neurocam.com font details are:
font color="#000000" size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"
On robinhely.com font details:
font color="#000000" size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"

Another night, another dig.
Having another look through the VCA's website, and after contacting them I came across this page.
http://www.vca.unimelb.edu.au/admin/admin_links/projekt/kings/2003.html
This page lists both Robin Hely, Peter Bourke and Robin Healy. After a search through the VCA's website and a google for "Robin Healy" he also gets a mention on other pages.

A simple mis-spelling or something more?

False alarm.

Neurocam and the several related sites use FutureQuest for their web hosting. The domain registrar is Dotster Inc.
A simple analysis of the available information should be sufficient to deduce the nature of Neurocam. There is a wide range of publicly available information which can assist one to come to an understanding of what Neurocam is.
The philosophical or critical thinkers amongst you will understand that even though you may know what Neurocam is, that all conclusions will be quite subjective and that, given the fragmented data available, several possibilities may be correct.
Our understanding is that Neurocam is "art" which is being executed by "artists".

And, Mr. Smith,it is my perception that Archavida is a "scam" to aquire peoples "money". Using neurocam's activities as a playbook.
Posted by: Ophidius | 03 February 2005 at 04:00 PM
According to the Archavida site:
“If you are interested in becoming a member of Archavida then please check back here shortly, a mechanism for new members to join Archavida shall be provided here in the coming days.”
It would appear as if that “mechanism” is in place. Just to the left of this notice is a VISA/MASTERCARD Subscribe button that takes you to Paypal where you are able to give one dollar to the "Dunolly Group" for the first year, and ten dollars (US) for the second. Apparently that’s all it takes. This $1 is for a “Subscription To: Archavida Annual Membership” So. Is that all it takes?
Posted by: Avery Cardoza | 03 February 2005 at 06:09 PM
Seems so, but having to pay a membership fee for an organization that does not tell you it's primary activities before you pay seems quite shady to me. I think the "Archavidians" figured they could cash in by making a neurocam ripoff you have to pay for.
Posted by: Ophidius | 03 February 2005 at 06:45 PM
So when does the "Neurocam: Accept no substitutes" ad campaign begin?
Posted by: lady j | 03 February 2005 at 06:50 PM
Just before the Neurocam: Love It or Leave It launch.
